Real-time RT-PCR Assays

Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction assays (real-time PCR) have been used to quantitatively reproduce DNA sequences and it has greatly improved the quality of results in diagnostic laboratories. Real-time PCR tests use specific sections of DNA unique to a target to detect if that target is present in a sample. This technique has many advantages over traditional detection or diagnostics including its superior specificity, it can differentiate between different strains and it does not rely on subjective analysis.

Quidel has developed Lyra assays which use real-time PCR to assist your lab with its infectious disease testing. Lyra assays have been validated on the Applied Biosystems® 7500 Fast Dx, Cepheid SmartCycler® II, and Life Technologies QuantStudio™ Dx. Using any of these light cyclers for validating the assays on your lab’s system will provide superior results with easy to manage workflows.
